In a bid to discuss and exchange ideas on how social media has revolutionised the way we live, work and communicate, a unique five-day "Social Media Week" started off in Mumbai on November 16 with over 1,500 thinkers and innovators joining several brainstorming sessions.

Mumbai is one of the three cities along with Chicago in the US and Santiago in Chile to host the last leg of "Social Media Week" for this year which has made its presence felt in more than 25 cities across the globe.

"We are very excited to launch 'Social Media Week' in Mumbai where some top experts from across the industries are going to share experiences about the best use of social media," said Rohit Varma, director, "Social Media Week", in a statement.

With a theme titled "Upwardly Mobile: The rise of the connected class", the event will see an array of speakers including brand expert Suhel Seth, international news anchor Richard Lui and joint commissioner of police (traffic) Milind Bharambe.

The speakers will share the experience of tapping social media to influence behaviour and run social campaigns that impact the connected class of India.

"Social Media Week promises to be a rewarding opportunity for all the participants as this year we bring to you an entire week of all things social media." Varma added.

Started in New York in 2012 by US-based strategy firm Crowdcentric Media, "Social Media Week" has evolved into a global movement that taps into human networks to create and share a knowledge bank.

Over the week, people will get a chance to hear speakers from different genres including media, entertainment, advertising, travel and food at the digital extravaganza sponsored by Tata Motors, the statement added.
