The body of an Indian army man, who had allegedly committed suicide, was found in a city hotel Monday, police said.
The deceased, identified as Veer Singh, consumed some poisonous substance in a hotel in the Qaiserbagh area Sunday night, police said. He has left behind a suicide note in which he has attributed mental tension and prolonged illness as the reasons behind the extreme step.
Superintendent of Police (SP) West Ajay Kumar Mishra told IANS that the 27-year-old deceased was posted in Jalandhar.
The soldier had reached Kanpur Sunday and had hired a taxi to come to Lucknow. He booked a room in a city hotel but did not open the door Monday despite repeated knocks. The hotel staff then broke open the door to find him lying dead on the floor.
The body has been sent for autopsy and the family and the army unit where he was deployed have been informed of the death, an official said.
