An Indian soldier was killed on Sunday in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.
Defence Ministry sources said Pakistan Army resorted to an unprovoked ceasefire violation in Nawshera Sector on the Line of Control (LoC) at about 2.45 p.m. on Sunday.
An official said that a soldier identified as Naik Gosavi Keshav Somgir was critically injured in the firing from across the border and succumbed to gunshot wound injuries.
Somgir, 29, belonged to Sri Rampur village of Nashik district in Maharashtra. He is survived by his wife.
"The Indian Army has retaliated strongly and effectively on Pakistan Army posts. The martyrdom of the Indian Army soldier will not go in vain," a senior official said.
