Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday expressed grief over the death of Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father of Singapore and its first prime minister.
Describing Lee as the "builder" of modern, multi-ethnic Singapore, Gandhi
said he belonged to the league of Asian statesmen who successfully carried forward the task of nation building.
"His ties with India as well as the Congress were warm," she said, recalling Lee's visit to New Delhi to deliver the 37th Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture in 2005.
