South Africa calls for UNSC reform

South Africa has again pushed for the UN Security Council (UNSC) reform, while appealing for an African nation be added to the UNSC members' list, the country's International Relations Minister, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, has said.

"In this regard, South Africa challenges the UN membership to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations in 2015, with a reformed, more inclusive, democratic and representative UNSC," reported Xinhua citing Mashabane in Pretoria Tuesday.

"Our concern with the lack of progress on this matter is that the UNSC still remains undemocratic, unrepresentative and unfair to developing nations and small states, which disenfranchises the majority of the member states of the United Nations," the minister added.

The 54-nation African continent has a representation of only three non-permanent members without veto power in the UNSC.
