South Asian Games: Afghanistan win six gold, India five in taekwondo

Afghanistan won six gold medals while India had to be satisfied with five golds in the finals of the taekwondo event at the 12th South Asian Games here on Monday.

Overall, the Afghans clinched six gold, one silver and one bronze in the event.

India got five gold, three silver and two bronze medals, followed by Pakistan with one gold and silver and four bronze medals.

Afghanistan's Ahmad Ali Bakshi thrashed Nepal's Bir B. Mahara and won gold in the final round match of the men's under-63 kg category.

In the women under-53 kg category, India's Latika Bandari clinched the gold beating Nepal's Neema Gurung in the final round.

 

India's Navjeet Man defeated Nepal's Shaksham Karki to grab the gold in the men's under-80 kg category.

In the women's under-62 kg category, India's Margerita Regi defeated Nepal's Ayasha Shakya by a single blow during additional time after a draw of 8-8 points in the first three bouts.
