Indian paddler G. Sathiyan, who was forced to concede the men's singles table tennis final of the 12th South Asian Games 2016 after picking up a thumb injury, will be out of action for the next one week.

"He (Sathiyan) has picked up an injury, and he will be out of action for the next one week. It will take around 15-16 days to fully heal," India's coach Arup Basak told IANS.

"But he will only start practising after 5-6 days since the World Team Table Tennis Championships are coming up (at the end of the month)" Basak added.

Sathiyan picked up the thumb injury on Tuesday as he attempted a shot and struck his playing hand against the table in the men's singles final against Anthony Amalraj.

Although he attempted to carry on after receiving medical treatment, he was eventually forced to concede the match in the fourth game.
