Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday met government officials and bureaucrats, and told them that the Samajwadi Party government had a "solid chance of a comeback" and cautioned officials against any laxity in work.

In the meeting attended by divisional commissioners, principal secretaries and over a dozen district magistrates, Yadav said he will not tolerate any callousness in matters related to development and law and order.

The 42-year-old chief minister told them that they should not be swayed by the idea that his government was here for only the next year or so.

He said that in many states, governments have returned to power, and the Samajwadi Party too will come back due to its "good policies" and "development work".

Yadav said that if his job was on the firing line, he will ensure that the officials who were not doing their jobs well were eased out of important positions.

An official present at the meeting said on the condition of anonymity that the chief minister was "quite up front and combative" and told officials that they would be marked on basis of good work done in their departments, and that public good should be the benchmark of all their decisions.
