In another jolt to the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP), its Bhagwantnagar legislator Kuldeep Senger joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday.
Senger, who was close to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, joined the BJP in the presence of the BJP's state unit chief, Keshav Prasad Maurya, in New Delhi.
District Congress President of Kanpur rural Abhijeet Singh Sanga also ditched his party to join the BJP. A young leader with considerable clout in Bithoor, Sanga had left the SP in the run up to the 2012 state assembly polls.
Former BSP MP and Minister R.K. Patel and former BSP candidate for the Rampur (Pratapgarh) assembly constituency Sunil Singh Patel also joined the BJP.
Only a day back, senior SP leader and former Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Raja Aridaman Singh had joined the BJP along with his wife.
