The approval of spectrum trading norms on Wednesday will reduce the call drop menace in the country, say industry stakeholders.

"This is a positive move by the government to help optimal spectrum usage in line with the subscriber base. Definitely, we are going to see a reduce in call drops," said Faisal Kawoosa, general manager of research and consulting at Cybermedia Research.

Earlier during the day, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said announced that the telecom service operators can now trade excess spectrum.

Incessant call drops have been a cause for concern for quite some time and the government and telecom regulator are trying hard to address this issue.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) also said on Wednesday that it will conduct another test drive to measure the quality of telecom services in the next two weeks.

"Almost all the telecom operators failed the quality of service drive test," its chairman R.S. Sharma told reporters after holding a meeting with the heads of telecom companies.
