The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) has decided to embrace technology which will provide the sport more visibility while keeping pace with latest trends by way of introducing new components in the scoring system that will be used in all SRFI sanctioned tournaments.

As part of this 'Game Development Project', the SRFI has tied up with the Sports Mechanics India Limited, and as a first step, the website of the SRFI has already undergone a revamp and highly intuitive players profiles were added soon after and more is in store.

Starting with the Jaipur Junior Open, which is to get underway Tuesday, referees will do away with the conventional pencil and scoresheet to jot down the running scores but instead switch to iPad.

Collected data will be in sync with the website and distributed to the other constituents providing additional information about the players' show in terms of winners', errors', strokes and the like, according to a SRFI press release Sunday.

Above all, this technology would help SRFI to create more visibility to the Indian players. This initiative also helps to keep a secure tab on all tournaments, performance of referees and players in the country.

Once this is successfully implemented in the Jaipur tournament, all such tournaments would come under this new scoring system, the release added.
