Sri Lanka Thursday named three internationally acclaimed experts to advice a local commission tasked to probe civilian deaths during the war between the Tamil Tigers and the military.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa expanded the mandate of the Missing Persons Commission and appointed Desmond de Silva, Geoffrey Nice and David Crane to advice the body, Xinhua reported.
The commission has been tasked with investigating and reporting on facts and circumstances that led to the loss of civilian lives during the armed conflict that ended in May 2009.
Desmond has experience at international criminal tribunals and Nice led the prosecution in the trial of former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic.
