London, May 2 (IANS/EFE) British theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking, who has suffered from a degenerative disease for decades, said during a public appearance that he would like to go into space, a media report said.
The 71-year-old Hawking said he would like to travel into space aboard the private spacecraft that mogul Richard Branson is developing, the Daily Telegraph said Wednesday.
Hawking made the rare public appearance at an event organized in London by Breathe On, a charity that helps people on long-term ventilation.
"Being on a ventilator has not curbed my lifestyle," the widely traveled Hawking said.
The theoretical physicist and cosmologist suffers from a motor neuron disease related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
"I hope to go into space with Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic," Hawking told the audience.
