Stressed over studies, a 20-year-old Delhi University student attempted suicide by jumping from her college building here on Monday. The girl survived and is being treated, police said.

Ruby jumped from the third floor of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College - a constituent college of Delhi University -- from where she has been pursuing B.Tech. The incident took place at around 1 p.m.

She was initially taken to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital by college authorities and later shifted to the Trauma Centre where she is stated to be out of danger.

Police recovered a two-page suicide note from her possession in which she wrote she was stressed over her studies.

"The student jumped from the third floor... A suicide note was recovered from her in which she blamed study-related pressure for her extreme step," Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma said.

The girl lives with her family in Faridabad, Haryana and used to commute everyday to the college. Her father is a private company employee.

"She did not blame anyone of her family or in college behind her extreme step. She was probably depressed over the way she was faring out in her studies," he said.

The college principal told police that the girl was good in studies and she had scored over 70 percent marks in the second semester.
