Student leader Chetan Oinam sustained three fractures on Monday when a truck hit him, apparently after police pushed him out of the BJP office here.

Oinam is General Secretary of the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), whose activists said he was one of the students who was treated roughly by the police.

As Oinam fell on the road, a passing water tanker crushed his left hand.

The DESAM volunteers were trying to storm the Raj Bhavan and the Bharatiya Janata Party office demanding the removal of Manipur University Vice Chancellor A.P. Pandey.

DESAM is the latest student organisation to join the Pandey ouster campaign. Manipur University and all colleges affiliated to it have been closed down for 48 days on the issue.

DESAM President Salam Akash said: "All the guilty police personnel should be booked by July 18 noon failing which there will be more agitation."
