German Bundesliga side Stuttgart and striker Vedad Ibisevic agreed on a contract extension ahead of schedule, the "VfB" announced here Wednesday.

Ibisevic extended his current contract until 2016 by putting pen to paper on a one-year extension, reports Xinhua.

"It is my pleasure to play for the "VfB" and I am pleased with the confidence shown by the club. We can develop something here again. I would like to contribute with my performance and goals so that we can experience better times," Ibisevic told the club's official website.

The Bosnian international scored 33 goals in 72 appearances for Stuttgart.

"He is a key player and with his experience very important for our team, especially in dealing with our youngsters. Vedad also has special qualities. He has a goal getter instinct, he always makes his goals and he will do so in future," Stuttgart director of sports Fredi Bobic said.

Stuttgart showed poor performances last season as they finished on 15th position, just five points away from the drop zone.
