Subroto Cup: St. Mary's ensures quarters berth

St. Mary's School - Salem, Tamil Nadu, virtually ensured their entry in the the quarter-finals by thrashing N. Mary High School - Pune, Maharashtra, 9-1 in the girls' category of the 54th Subroto Cup footall here Friday.

V. Kumari led St. Mary's charge with Soubaliya, Rasika, Manabika and Jayarama scoring one goal each. The Tamil Nadu team are now leading their pool with two wins from as many matches.

In other girls' matches, Afghanistan registered a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Air Force Bal Bharti School, New Delhi.

The Afghan team rode on goals from Fahima (12th, 18th) and Arezo (32nd, 36th). The visitors dominated proceedings right from the start.

 

The Delhi team managed to get their act together in the second half and created a couple of chances, but they were no match for the visitors.

Meanwhile, AP Sports School of Andhra Pradesh maintained their winning streak by beating Nayagram Thana Balika Vidhalaya, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, 3-2 in a well-contested match. Anitha scored a brace for the Andhra team who have now qualified for the quarter-finals.

Government Model School, Haryana, registered their second consecutive victory by getting past Fountainhead School, Gujarat, 2-0.

AP Sports School, Andhra Pradesh 3 (Anitha 7th, 47th, Hamerse 21st) defeated Nayagram Thana Vidhalaya, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal (Kalpsansa kisku 31st, Tulsi Hembram 37th) (Girls)

Government Model School, Haryana 2 (Nisa 2nd, 15th) defeated Fountainhead School, Gujarat 0 (Girls)
