The Saudi authorities Sunday prevented a plane carrying Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir from crossing the kingdom's airspace, official SUNA news agency reported.
"The plane carrying President Omar al-Bashir was on its way to Tehran on an invitation from the Iranian leadership to attend the inauguration of the elected Iranian President Hassan Rouhani," reported Xinhua citing the SUNA report.
"The plane returned after it was prevented by the Saudi civil aviation authorities from crossing into the Saudi airspace although the plane had a transit permission," it added.
"The Sudanese authorities are still waiting for the official stance of Saudi Arabia."
The report said the plane was a Saudi chartered plane and Al-Bashir was accompanied by the ministers of foreign affairs, investment and agriculture.
