At least 10 people were killed when a suicide bomber exploded outside a Shia mosque in Pakistan's Balochistan province on Thursday evening, authorities said.

The dead included three children, Dawn reported. The injured were rushed to a hospital in Bolan, around 125 km from Quetta, the provincial capital where the attack took place.

"Ten people have died and over a dozen are injured. They have been shifted to the local health centre," Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti told the media.

According to Dawn, the health centre where the wounded were taken was without a qualified doctor and proper health facilities.

More than 1,400 incidents of violence targeting the minority Shia and Hazara communities have taken place in the province in the past 15 years.

Pakistan's largest province, it is home to a low-level insurgency by Baloch separatists. Al Qaeda-linked and sectarian militants also operate in the region.
