A day after it extended support to the Harish Rawat-led Congress government in Uttarakhand, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Wednesday made it clear that the "camaraderie" was restricted only to the hill state and it will have no truck with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh.

Party supremo Mayawati said that two legislators of her party extended support to the Congress government only "to stop communal forces from storming into power there".

"We will have no alliance with the Congress or any other political party in the state assembly polls in 2017," the BSP chief said, pointing out that the "BSP on its own will form government in the state".

Senior Congress leaders at a meeting held at the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters in the state capital on Tuesday were buoyed by the BSP support in neighbouring Uttarakhand and had spoken of "a similar tie-up in the state".

The BSP was voted out of power in 2012 by arch rival Samajwadi Party (SP) and is now trying hard to make a comeback.
