"Surkhaab", a cinematic tale of a woman who has to face unexpected events when she illegally migrates to Canada to be with her younger brother, will have a limited release in India on May 22, courtesy PVR Director's Rare.

The movie, directed by Sanjay Talreja, stars talented actress Barkha Madan in the lead role of a strong woman named Jeet; with Sumit Suri, Vinita Malik and Naresh Gosain in supporting roles.

Having travelled to various places and winning praises at international fests in Madrid, Toronto and London, the drama thriller will see the light of day in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

Glad that movies with strong female protagonists are being well received by audiences,

"Surkhaab" producer Vivek Kumar says the film, "with its talented star cast and gripping story is sure to strike a chord with the Indian diaspora across the globe".

"Additionally, the response from the international festival circuit has been over-whelming and I'm sure that the evolving Indian audience will enjoy the film as well," he added.

The movie explores underlying themes of globalisation, cross immigration and women empowerment.

Talreja says the aim of the movie is "to touch upon the theme of women empowerment and problems concerning migration" and he hopes "audiences will be able to relate to the story of an underdog who emerges triumphant against all odds".

Sanjeev Bijli, joint managing director, PVR Group, vouches for the fact that the movie is a "brilliant piece of work".
