Citing a survey, the government on Tuesday said its "Swachh Bharat" initiative was making a difference and the sanitation in many parts of the country had "substantially improved".

"Results of the 'Swachh Survekshan-2017' (survey) have confirmed that the efforts being made under 'Swachh Bharat' mission have made a positive impact on cleanliness situation in urban areas," the government said.

Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu said the results of the survey "are very encouraging".

"Swachh Bharat buzz is reflecting on ground. Swachh rankings of 434 cities and towns will be announced on Thursday. More than rankings, citizens' perception and field reports are more exciting," Naidu tweeted.

Over 37 lakh citizens gave their feedback to the two-month-long survey, an official statement said.
