Tamil Nadu announces Rs.2.5 lakh compensation for rain deaths

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam Tuesday announced a solatium of Rs.250,000 to the families of 30 people who died due to recent rains.

He also announced compensation to those who lost their cattle and hut dwellers whose huts were damaged in the rains.

In a statement issued here Panneerselvam said 30 people have lost their lives in rain related incidents - wall collapse, lightning, floods - in different parts of the state, and compensation of Rs.2.5 lakh will be paid to their families.

Compensation will also be paid to those who lost their cattle and livestock (cow Rs.20,000, goat Rs.2,000 and hen Rs.100), he said.

 

He said for those huts that were totally damaged, a compensation of Rs.5,000 would be paid and for those partly damaged, Rs.2,500.

According to Panneerselvam, officials have been ordered to send a report on crop damage.

A sum of Rs.60 crore has been allocated for repairing the roads and bridges that were damaged in the rains.
