A northeastern students' delegation led by Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering Tuesday met Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and demanded a judicial enquiry into the death of a youth from Arunachal Pradesh.

"They have demanded a judicial enquiry be set up immediately and the home minister has said the investigation will start by tomorrow," Ering told a news channel after the meeting.

"They have in the memorandum (given to Shinde) said that there should be a law (against racism) enacted and I think the home minster has agreed to that. We also felt that this case is racial in nature," he added.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had Monday met a group of northeastern students protesting at the Jantar Mantar here and assured them that he would do all that was possible.

Nido Tania, 19, was beaten up by shopkeepers Jan 29 in south Delhi's Lajpat Nagar market following a quarrel over his appearance and clothing. He died in a hospital Thursday.

Three people have been arrested in the case so far.
