Tata Sampann, a part of Tata Chemicals' consumer products wing, on Thursday announced the launch of its spice range.

Aimed at recreating the authentic taste and aroma of Indian food, Tata Sampann spices, which comprise blended spice products like 'dal tadka' masala, 'garam' masala, 'Punjabi chole' masala, chilli and turmeric powders, have been developed by brand ambassador Chef Sanjeev Kapoor.

"The food market in India is pegged at Rs.600,000 crore, which shows a huge growth opportunity as consumers are increasingly making informed decisions about their food habits. Through these spices we aim to provide everyday foods with high quality," said Tata Chemicals managing director R. Mukundan.

The company earlier had its presence in the consumer products business majorly through its salt, pulses, bottled water, tea and coffee.

Speaking at the launch, Kapoor said, over the past 23 years, he has never endorsed any spice products as they were a "tough category to get everything right".

Following a phase-wise roll-out plan, these spices would be available across the northern market by the end of the year, followed by the west, east and south markets.

The spices also aim to leverage Tata Salt's distribution in the country, that caters to 120 million households across the nation.

The company aims to soon launch other products which form a part of the everyday Indian 'thali' (platter).
