After being interrogated here for several hours Sunday, Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, who is accused of sexual assaulting a junior colleague, Monday underwent mandatory medical examinations, which included potency and blood tests.

Police sources said while the potency test was necessary to establish whether the accused was physically capable of the rape he is accused of, the blood tests and other medical examinations are mandatory every two days when an accused is in police custody.

Tejpal was taken to Goa Medical College near Panaji for the potency test before being taken for other tests, the sources added.

A Goa court Sunday sent Tejpal to six days in police custody for interrogation over the rape charges filed by the victim, who has since quit the magazine.
