Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao Thursday asked the state police chief to consider taking action against films and television serials portraying violence against women.

The chief minister feels that portrayal of violence and atrocities against women in the movies and television soaps amount to encouraging crime against women and has directed Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Sharma to look into the possibility of taking action against such movies and serials.

He also ordered for setting up a women police station in each police sub-division.

Chandrasekhar Rao also issued directions to constitute a committee to look into the problems faced by women. He suggested that stringent laws be made to check trafficking of women and female infanticide.

He asked police to form special teams to track down those targeting women in Hyderabad. His direction came in the light of recent arrest of a gang involved in gang rape of a girl at a farmhouse on the city outskirts. The gang reportedly used a snake to threaten the victim and is also suspected to have committed more such crimes.
