Heat wave conditions intensified across Punjab and Haryana on Friday with the maximum temperature crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark, officials said on Friday.
Hisar town in Haryana was the hottest in the region on Friday with the maximum temperature hitting a high of 42.8 degrees Celcius. This was six degrees above normal, the Met Office here said.
Narnaul in Haryana recorded a high of 42.5 degrees, six degrees above normal.
The maximum temperature at other places across Haryana and Punjab hovered around 40 degrees, marking the onset of summer in right earnest.
Amritsar city in Punjab recorded a high of 40.5 degrees, eight degrees above normal.
Patiala and Ludhiana in Punjab were at 40.4 and 40 degrees, respectively, five and six degrees above normal.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 38.2 degrees while Ambala in Haryana saw a high of 38.5 degrees.
Met department officials said heat wave conditions would prevail over the region in the coming days.
