Giving relief to people from sizzling temperatures, Tuesday was a relatively cooler day in most parts of Punjab and Haryana, thanks to rain in some areas and a generally cloudy sky.
Ambala and Karnal in Haryana recorded highs of 31.9 and 36 degrees Celsius. Ambala was six degrees lower than average.
Bhiwani in Haryana was the hottest at 41.8 degrees.
In Chandigarh, the maximum temperature was 33.5 degrees, six degrees below average. The temperature here on Monday was 37.5 degrees.
It experienced early morning rain and a generally cloudy sky through the day.

Hisar in Haryana recorded 38.5 degrees. It had recorded 42.5 degrees on Sunday.
In Punjab, Sikh holy city Amritsar was cooler at 34.3 degrees. Ludhiana had a high of 35 and Patiala 34 degrees.
Weather officials said that thunderstorms and partly cloudy sky were likely to occur at some places in Punjab and Haryana in the next 48 hours.
The temperatures are likely to rise in the range of 43-47 degrees from next week onwards as the region will come in the grip of a heat wave.
