The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is striving to set a record on International Yoga Day on June 21 with the participation of more than ten lakh cadets across 1,900 locations in the country.

According to a defence ministry statement, NCC has trained its cadets in yoga over a period of fifteen days each at 2,700 venues across India with the help of 1,800 instructors from April to June this year.

It said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address at an NCC rally earlier this year, had exhorted the cadets to participate in the International Yoga Day and create a world record

"The NCC was encouraged by his words and, through a coordinated effort, aims to achieve this feat," the statement said.

It said that the task of training over ten lakh NCC cadets was accomplished by all the 17 NCC Directorates covering all the states and union territories of India.

"NCC is preparing to organise the largest ever demonstration of yoga by a uniformed organisation on a single day concurrently at multiple venues across India," the statement added.

It said that NCC has been grooming the youth to turn into disciplined citizens, and has been conducting social awareness, community development programmes and adventure activities aimed at all-round development of its wards.
