A student robbed six taxi drivers to fund his university fees in the Thai capital on Wednesday, police said.

The 18-year-old Chalermyod separately called six cabs to a halt in a dark, long lane and robbed the drivers of their cash altogether amounting about $66, Xinhua news agency reported.

He used a bogus revolver to perpetrate the crime which saw the panic-stricken victims quickly handing out their money. None of the taxi drivers resisted or got hurt, the police said.

One of the victims said the youngster thanked him for the money and wished him good luck before he got off.

Chalermyod was arrested shortly after he had made cash, the police said.

The student said he did so to pay for the fees at his state university and to buy a bus ride to his native Chumporn province.
