Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger Friday spoke of his belief that recent retiree Thierry Henry, who played ever under his tutelage for eight years at the London club, was one of the best footballers he has ever witnessed.

"He's had a massive career and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for what he's done for the club.He was a combination of physical talent and intelligence. One of the greatest players I've ever seen - and I have seen a few," Wenger was quoted as saying by mirror.co.uk Friday.

Henry has scored 174 goals for the North London side from 254 games and was part of the 'Invincibles' squad that won the premier league unbeaten in the 2003-04 season.

Arsenal are gearing up to face Liverpool in a crucial encounter Sunday and hoped that his team, spearheaded by former Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez, would be up to the tough task.

He shared his happiness that the Chilean chose to play for Arsenal this season despite several lucrative offers from other premier league rivals, most notably Liverpool.

"Every great player has the choice to play where he wants and he chose us. We're very happy," he said.

Sanchez has scored 14 goals so far for the gunners this season from 23 appearances. Arsenal are presently sixth in the league table, with 26 points from 16 matches.
