The 44th All India Sainik Schools Principals Conference will be held at Sainik School Kazhakootam, near here, from Wednesday.
Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh will inaugurate the three-day conference, to be attended by senior officials from the defence ministry and principals from 24 Sainik Schools.
Founded in the early 1960s by then Defence Minister V.K.Krishna Menon, Sainik Schools were set up to provide public school education to the children of common men to remove the class imbalance in the society.
They are run by the Sainik Schools Society under the aegis of the defence ministry.
Today a good majority of the officer cadre of the armed forces are the alumni of Sainik Schools including the present army chief, Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag and air force chief, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha.
