Hitting out at the opponents of the demonetisation move, the BJP said on Tuesday that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to remove corruption and black money from the country, the opposition parties want to remove him from the post.
"We hoped that the opposition parties will support the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency but they (opposition leaders) are standing for corruption and black money. They have been unmasked now," Bharatiya Janata Party Secretary Shrikant Sharma told a press conference here.
Sharma said despite facing problems, people across the country have supported the demonetisation, though some opposition parties are trying to derail this by defaming the Centre and spreading rumours.
"Those who are anti-development and have accumulated black money want to remove the Prime Minister, who wants to remove corruption and black money from the system," Sharma said, adding that this fight is "of the people and for the people".
Hitting out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for his remarks that black money saves the economy when there is an economic crisis, the BJP leader said the ruling Samajwadi Party in the poll-bound state is rattled by the "surgical strike" against black money.
"Akhilesh ji, in the last four and a half years, you accumulated black money. You gave place in your Cabinet to those who were carrying out black money business. You are criticising Modi and the Union government as the surgical strike against black money has hit the right target," Sharma said.
Sharma, who is also the BJP's national media convenor, took on Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the left parties and the Samajwadi Party for criticising the government's move on demonetisation.

"When the common man was being looted under the Congress rule earlier, you all supported that government. Even the Aam Aadmi Party later formed a government in Delhi with the help of the Congress. People of this country know who is against black money and who is for black money. They have been unmasked," the BJP leader said.
