Three people were arrested Tuesday in West Bengal's Burdwan district for killing a man who tried to save his sisters from getting abducted and raped, police said.
"We arrested three people in connection with Sunday's killing of the man. They have been booked for murder and outraging the modesty of a woman. They will be presented before a court Wednesday," Additional Superintendent of Police (Burdwan) Tarun Haldar said.
The incident occurred in the wee hours Sunday in Katwa in the district, 150 km from Kolkata. The 22-year-old labourer was shot dead by a gang of four who had barged inside into his house and tried to abduct his sisters.
In their complaint, the girls stated that four masked men had entered their house and tried two abduct them. When they resisted, they were molested and the miscreants tried to rape them. When their brother tried to fight them, the miscreants fired at him, killing him on the spot.
