Three youngsters riding a motorbike were run over by a speeding truck in Allahabad on Friday, police said.
Angry residents took to the streets after the mishap and disrupted traffic. Following the protests, police reinforcements were rushed to the spot. It took the police more than an hour to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control.
The incident took place at Bara near Kanjasa village when the three youths returning on a motorcycle after having 'darshan' at Mansuriyan Devi - a local shrine - were run over by a speeding truck. They died on the spot. The victims were from Kareli village.
Locals and passers-by overpowered the truck driver who was trying to flee. He was later handed over to the police after being thrashed. The locals also tried to set the truck on fire and went on the rampage. They said they have been demanding speed breakers in the area for long but to no avail.
