Three people have died and over 300 people are under medical treatment from an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in Nagaland, an official said on Monday.

The outbreak occurred August 3 in Wanching village under Mon district bordering Myanmar, said medical official Nyanthung Kikon.

"There have been 316 cases of AGE, out of which 30 patients required admission and three of them have died," he said, adding that seven medical teams have been mobilised to contain the outbreak.

The department's Information, Education and Communication wing has also put in action to spread education on proper hygiene, consumption and boiled water, hand washing and other preventive measures, he added.

He thanked the Assam Rifles personnel, stationed at Wakching, for their cooperation and assistance in the logistics for enabling smooth conduct for health care delivery to the affected village and areas.
