Three people have been arrested for procuring 275 grams of psychotropic substance amphetamine, valued at Rs.30 lakh in the international market, police said on Saturday.

Two of the accused, Shubham Nath, 20, and Prabhat, 22, were arrested on Wednesday from near Japanese Park in northwest Delhi's Rohini with 183 grams of amphetamine.

They told police that the drug was supplied to them by Tapan Mudgal, who was later arrested from his residence in west Delhi's Pitampura with 92 grams of amphetamine.

Experts say the drug stimulates the central nervous system by increasing the amount of certain chemicals in the body.

"Amphetamine is habit forming. One can become physically and psychologically dependent on this medication. This drug is used in rave parties by youths as it is cheaper than cocaine," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav.

All the accused, during interrogation, told police that they were supplying drugs to party goers since the last two months.

"College students and young boys from rich families are using this drug nowadays. For medical purposes, it is taken orally or through nasal inhalation but for recreational activities, it is also used intravenously," Yadav said.

According to police, Prabhat and Subham, both hailing from Patna, were classmates and were in the second year of a mass communication course.

They took to supplying drugs to earn easy money and lead a lavish lifestyle.

The official said Mudgal, who is an MBA from Singapore, was in the business of importing surgical equipment.

He too got involved recently in supplying drugs to earn easy money.
