At least three people were killed and 12 wounded in two bomb attacks in Iraq's capital Baghdad Thursday, a police source said.

In one of the attacks, a suicide bomber blew up his explosive vest near a court in Karrada district in central Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding five others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Another attack occurred in the same district when a car bomb was detonated near the police headquarters. Two people were killed and seven others were injured in the attack, the source said.

The toll could rise as ambulances, police and civilian vehicles evacuated the injured people to different hospitals and medical centres in the city, the source added.

Iraq is witnessing some of its worst violence in recent years. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, a total of 8,868 Iraqis, including 7,818 civilians and civilian police personnel, were killed in 2013.
