Three people died and five were seriously injured Monday when a passenger train collided with a minibus in the canton of Nidwalden in central Switzerland, police said.

The accident occurred at a level crossing without a barrier in the municipality of Wolfenschiessen, Xinhua reported citing local media reports.

The victims were all occupants of the minibus, police said.

Peter Bircher, spokesperson of Zentralbahn, the rail operator that runs the train involved in the accident, said that no one on the train got injured.

Witnesses said that two helicopters, five ambulances and 10 fire tenders rushed to the scene.

The accident comes less than three weeks after a train collided with a car at another level crossing in Wolfenschiessen July 21.
