Three killed in UN helicopter crash in South Sudan

Three people were killed and another injured when a helicopter belonging to the UN Mission in South Sudan crashed Tuesday.

The mission said that three crew were died and another was wounded when the helicopter was crashed in the state of Unity in South Sudan, Xinhua reported.

Earlier, the mission confirmed that one of its choppers crashed near Bentiu, the capital of the Unity state where government troops have been fighting rebels led by the country's former vice president Riek Machar.

"The UN Mission in South Sudan confirms that one of its MI-8 helicopters has crashed about 10 km south of Bentiu in Unity state," the mission said.

 

The mission reported losing contact with the helicopter, which was on a routine cargo flight from Wau to Bentiu Tuesday.
