Tibetan prime minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay Monday expressed sorrow over the death of Mohan Singh, Samajwadi Party general secretary, who had been a staunch supporter of the cause of Tibet and its people.

In a condolence message, Sangay said: "With his passing away, we not only lost a very true friend but also a great parliamentarian -- a man of high principles. He will be remembered by the Tibetans for his unflinching support in the most trying of circumstances."

Singh passed away at AIIMS in Delhi Sunday after a battle with cancer.

"This sad news has been conveyed to His Holiness the Dalai Lama who has also expressed his sadness and has offered his prayers," Sangay said.

The Dalai Lama has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959. The Tibetan exile administration is based in this north Indian hill town, and not recognised by any country in the world.
