Tijuana progressed to the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores with a 2-1 victory over Palmeiras at the Pacaembu stadium.

The Mexican club, which was held to a 0-0 draw in the first leg, now faces Brazil's Atletico Mineiro in the last eight of South America's premier football club competition, reports Xinhua.

Colombian striker Duvier Riascos struck the opener for the visitors Tuesday when his tame 26th-minute shot inexplicably slipped through the hands of goalkeeper Bruno.

Fernando Arce doubled the lead six minutes after the restart by dispatching Henrique's headed clearance into the top corner of Bruno's net with a stinging half-volley.

Palmeiras were given a glimmer of hope on the hour-mark when Souza converted a penalty after Tijuana defender Pablo Aguilar was penalised for handball in the area.

In Thursday's matches, defending champions Corinthians are at home to six-time winners Boca Juniors and Velez Sarsfield host Argentine rivals Newell's Old Boys.
