TN CM lays foundation stone of Udangudi power project

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Monday laid the foundation stone of the Phase I of a supercritical thermal power plant of two 660 MW each at Udangudi in Tuticorin district, around 610 km from here.

The Chief Minister said Phase I of the coal-based project, of which he laid the foundation stone through videoconferencing, is expected to go on steam in 2020-21.

According to Palaniswami, the state is taking steps to implement power projects with a total generation capacity of 9,300 MW at an outlay of Rs 53,890 crore.

Palaniswami said projects involving an outlay of Rs 46,821 crore to achieve power generation capacity of 6,200 MW are underway in the southern state.

 

Palaniswami said the power infrastructure is also being strengthened in the state.
