Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit's office on Friday termed as "mischievous and scurrilous" media reports that he entered an occupied bathroom in Cuddalore district during a review of toilets built under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

A statement from Raj Bhavan termed the reports in some television channels as "malicious, scurrilous, mischievous, improper and incorrect", and added that any news about Raj Bhavan should be reported after due verification.

According to the statement, a malicious and scurrilous report has appeared with regard to an incident reported from Cuddalore on the matter of District Collector and other officials accompanying Purohit to see toilets built under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme.

"It is clarified and emphasized that the toilet constructed under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme was in the house of one Smt. Gowri," the statement said.

According to the statement, Purohit proceeded to the house behind a Lady District Revenue Officer (DRO) and the District Collector who had made all the arrangements.

"After making sure that the toilet which had been constructed was empty, the Collector followed the Lady DRO to the spot and then he was followed by the Governor," the statement said.

Purohit held a review meeting with the officials of Cuddalore District.

He also visited different places and interacted with the people.
