Rakhi Chakraborty, an Assistant Editor with the Times of India here, died early on Sunday, after a year long battle with lung cancer, sources in the daily said.
Chakraborty, 45, breathed her last at the private cancer-superspeciality hospital Tata Medical Centre here at 3 a.m. She is survived by her parents and two sisters.
Chakraborty, who was diagnosed with cancer in February last year, mostly worked as field reporter during her journalistic career, covering variety of beats like crime and politics.
She was equally adept in doing stories on political turbulence and Maoist insurgency as also in churning out lucid copies from beats like astrophysics.
She had also worked for Mumbai Mirror, and had short stints in other newspapers and electronic media.
