Tokyo shares opened lower on Thursday on the fall of US stocks overnight as well as lower oil prices.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 94.35 points, or 0.49 per cent, from Wednesday to 19,350.14, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 7.58 points, or 0.49 per cent, to 1,537.36.
Decliners were led by marine transportation, precision instrument and bank issues.
