Tokyo shares opened lower on Friday as sentiment here was weighed down by a weaker-than-expected US manufacturing data, as well as on a firmer yen.
At 9.15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 101.42 points, or 0.57 percent, from Thursday to 17,621.00, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 9.01 points, or 0.62 percent, to 1,433.73.
