Tokyo stocks soared 7.71 percent on Wednesday with its benchmark Nikkei stock index rising by its highest margin since 1994 on optimism over the global economy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 1,343.43 points, from Tuesday at 18,770.51, marking the biggest one-day gain since Jan. 31, 1994, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange soared 90.66 points, or 6.40 percent, to 1,507.37.
Every industry category on the main section gained ground, with insurance, pharmaceuticals and financing business issues leading gainers.
The turnover was 3,148.39 bn yen (about $26.16 bn).
