Tokyo stocks shed 2.43 percent on Tuesday, with its bench mark Nikkei stocks index closing at a seven-month low, as a combination of mixed gross domestic product data from Japan and weak Chinese trade indicators crushed investor sentiment.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 433.49 points from Monday at 17,427.08, its lowest close since February 3, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange moved 28.94 points or 2.00 percent, lower at 1,416.71.
Decliners were led by pharmaceuticals, foods and retail issues.
The turnover was at 2,274.19 billion yen (about $19.13 billion).
